Aha moments may seem to come out nowhere, but really they’re marking times of massive adjustment. These are the times when the light goes on, everything lines up, and we finally connect the dots to whatever it was we’d been missing the whole time. It’s not simply a matter of the words finally sinking in, although they can, or even the message behind unfolding events, which happens, but the fact that aha moments create a vortex of deeper awareness that gives us the sudden ability to see what is, as it is. Understanding at this heightened level opens us up and can change what comes next.
Here’s how an aha moment might go, we’re cruising through life, doing what we’ve always done or going through the motions or over the same territory time and again, when out of nowhere we’re struck by a startling insight, a greater depth of meaning dawns, and we begin to see with new eyes, from a whole different perspective, and voila, there’s the aha. Yes, we understood it before but what makes an aha moment different is that now we know with our body and soul as well as our mind. It’s this deeper recognition, and the simultaneous synchronicities that come with it, that realigns something inside and lets us see a vastly bigger picture.
An aha moment is there to help us open a door we didn’t even know existed. There is a bit of mystery in an aha, a seeing and feeling and knowing that asks something more from us and involves every part of who we are, all we know, and all we don’t quite know just yet. This sort of soul truth is a re-envisioning of the same truth that’s been right in front of us the whole time, the only difference is the infinitely deeper insight that’s finally been grasped. A new clarity is born within and how we see what’s always been, forever changes.
This seismic shift in perspective is how something ephemeral or daydreamy or inchoate comes into concrete form, if only for a moment. But if we play our cards right, a moment is all we need to pull that feeling, idea, or energy out of thin air and let it begin to live within us. Although the aha moment is a point in time, it is also a process. The aha asks us to follow up and follow through with more attention and care. These moments are like steppingstones to a new view of reality and every aha moment is another opportunity to grab hold of the numinous and let it click into place in our everyday life.
That’s how the vast inner world comes alive on the outside. We can tend these new threads by listening, living with the questions, and letting that free-flowing and unrestricted life force have more of a home in our day-to-day. This is how a glimpse into the greater whole, which is exactly what an aha moment is, takes root and transforms our lives.
So, sit with the unexpected, the barely understood, or what strikes you like a bolt out of the blue and live into where the aha leads.
