What You Seek

What you seek is seeking you.  – Rumi

These are words I need to hear when it starts to get a little dark in my corner of the world. There are times when everything feels out of reach, upended, or in total chaos. These are times of transformation and although it can be awkward and uncomfortable really the old is burning down so the new can be born. Not knowing what will come is what keeps us stuck. That’s when these words can comfort us because we don’t have to know the details. We do our part and then remind ourselves what we are seeking is trying to find its home in us as well.

Somehow the solution arrives, the life we want comes to us as we continue our search for what matters. We head out faithfully in the direction of what has heart and meaning, not knowing the how or the why, only that the energy we seek wants to come closer. The effort we put in has it’s reciprocal on the other mysterious side we can’t see or know. In the end what we long for is a consummation with what moves us at our core.

It can be easy to miss, we expect our lives to look differently or to work out according to our plan. This, of course, is not the way it works. We are the outlet for the mystery but the mystery never comes out like a power point presentation. But that mystery does want to be seen, it wants to live and breathe in every aspect of our lives. All we have to do is open to possibility, even the ones that shake and surprise us.

Our deep and sincere desire for something more creates a zest for living that is unknown in the bare bones of getting by. It’s us attuned to the unexpected and being open to the ways it expresses itself in our lives, a new job that is unlike anything we’ve done before, going back to school, adopting a pet. The ways are innumerable, but what they all have in common is the creation of a space where we can commune with what resonates deep inside. It is the creation of something new, an unexpected opportunity, and the evolution of ourselves into a form that takes us by surprise at the richness it holds.

So keep the mystery close it wants to reveal its secrets and expand who you think you are.
