Digging Our Own Graves

It’s Spring and maybe the spirit of renewal has me thinking about the cycles of death and rebirth. In order to bring in new life we have to release the old and for this we need to excavate. We dig down as deep as we can bear. We sort through what no longer sustains and nourishes our soul and reconsider the reflexive decisions we’ve been making. This creates the inner space we need for all the thoughts, feelings, complex desires, and wild wishes that have yet to be born. The deeper we dig the clearer what’s unnecessary becomes until we reach a point where there’s just no more room for the things that don’t enrich us.

Digging deeper into our hearts and minds is a way to release the old stuff weighing us down, and gives us the much needed space to figure out what no longer fits. It’s by digging, excavating, and stripping away that we come into contact with what sparks new life within us. The unexpected gifts and talents we possess that have been buried, waiting to be born.

They become easier to recognize because they supply a bolt of energy that can’t be denied. We may fear the power this new unknown has in our life but it’s what will lead us to unimaginable changes, openings, and transformations. We are constantly in these cycles of death and rebirth, the only difference is how much we are paying attention to them. The resurrection of our truth is what we are preparing for with all this digging and dying.

Instead of hanging onto what we know we have to bravely let go. The letting go makes way for other pieces of our self that are now ready to be born into action. We dig the grave for what has been and in that digging we discover more of our truth that’s been patiently waiting to be seen. We come closer to our authenticity and cultivate who we are meant to be by letting the old stories of who we thought we were go, and in doing so we write the next chapter.
